New canopy

Just heard that Carl's getting the new canopy installed during December.

There may be some disruption while work is in progress, particularly on the 25m range, but it will be worth it in the end. It won't be long before shooting can take place on 75m range in all weathers.

Wednesday afternoons

If the police are not using the range on a Wednesday afternoon, we have permission for members to use the range.

This is for full members only, no guests or visitors. A minimum of two full members must be present and one must be a non-shooting RO.  If you are interested in shooting on Wednesday afternoons, please ask a committee member for details of combination locks, location of keys etc. You will be responsible for getting out the red flags and targets and putting them away again.

It is advisable to check with Carl in advance to see if the range is available.

Thursday Evening Shooting *** NEW ***

Evening shooting has started again now the lighter evenings have arrived and this year Carl has decided that the Sunday Club can shoot on Wed evenings and we can shoot on Thursday evenings from now on.

It is less formal than Saturday shooting, but is still essential that all the usual safety rules apply. Club rules apply on Thursday evening as well as Saturday. There must be a minimum of two full members present, with one as a non-shooting RO at all times. Shooters have responsibility for opening and locking up. Usually only small numbers of shooters attend, but the shooting is usually very good as the wind often drops in the early evening. Club rifles/ammo will NOT be available and there is no guarantee that a committee member will be present.

Thursday evening shooting is for full members only, no probation members as there's no one available to supervise them. Under no circumstances can guests be brought to the range - the only time guests can shoot is on an official guest day, with prior notice.

Anyone wanting to shoot on Thursday evenings should have a word with a committee members for the combination lock codes and information about opening/closing and completing the log book.

May Bank Holiday

On May 6th, Bank Holiday Monday, the range will be open for shooting.

If you would like to shoot you can come along from 10am onwards. Both ranges will be open for business.

This is for club members only - no visitors/guests. Members from the Sunday club and other local clubs may also be there too.

We are not running it as an interclub competition this year, it's just for members to shoot - but if you want to arrange a competition between yourselves on the day, feel free to do so.

There will be tea/coffee & biscuits, but no BBQ this year.

There will be no club rifles or ammo available on this occasion

Introductory Shooting Course for Juniors

We have received funding to run another Sportivate course this year. This is for young people aged  14 to 25

We have a maximum of 8 places and would like to give members the first opportunity before we advertise wider

Do you have any friends or family that might be interested?

It is an introductory Target Shooting course and will only cost £5 per week to cover the cost of ammunition.  It will run from Saturday 1st June for 6 weeks at the club from 2pm to 4pm. Participants will be expected to attend each week

Rifles, ammunition, safety equipment and full instruction will be provided. Shooting will cover smallbore, fullbore and clays.

At the end of the 6 week course they will be able to join the club if they wish at a reduced probation fee of £25 instead of £50.

Suitable for girls and boys,

Family Day - 20th July 2013

It is now a tradition that we have a Family Day in July. This year it is on 20th July.

We will be having a hog roast again this year. One of our members, Ian, is organising it for us and hoping to provide one of his best pigs for the occasion.

The 75m range will be closed as usual and all shooting will be on the 25m range. There will be archery, clays and some air pistol/rifle shooting.

It's always a good day, whatever the weather. Hope you will join us and bring your friends and family to see what you get up to.

Well-behaved children are welcome, but please note that only children over 14 will be allowed to shoot firearms (they will be able to shoot air rifle/pistol)

Can't promise fine weather, but I will keep my fingers crossed!

Please let Sheila or Janet how many guests you will be bringing and if anyone will need the vegetarian option.

Beckingham update

We haven't got any dates for 2013 yet, but we are working on it.

Don't forget, you will need to do the 'safe shooter' session with Carl before you can shoot at Beckingham. Please let us know if you are interested and we'll get another session organised.

For those of you who don't know - Beckingham is an MOD Range near Newark. We can hire the 600m/400m ranges, which gives fullbore shooters more of a challenge than the club 75m range. The facilities are fantastic. However, bookings are not guaranteed and we have had the last few cancelled as the military take precedence and if they need them they have priority over civilians.

The other thing is that it is expensive to hire the facilities, which is why we have tried to engage other clubs so the cost is spread. The actual range fee isn't too bad, the killer is the fee we have to pay for the warden - and there's nothing we can do about it, and the prices have gone up again this year. The more shooters attending, the less it will cost. Unfortunately, due to the cost, if we do not get enough people wanting to attend, we will have to cancel the booking, which we try not to do, but we can't afford to make a loss on these days.

One question I am asked by other clubs is whether shooters are insured. I have confirmation from the insurance company that shooters are covered by their club's insurance, so this shouldn't be a problem.

It's a great experience, and if you've never shot at distance before there will be people who can help you.

If you are interested or want more info, please email me

New Members

Welcome to you all! It is lovely to see so many new faces at the club.

So far this year we have had 14 new members, which is fantastic!!! I hope you are all enjoying it. If you have any questions, or want more information please just ask. If we don't know, we will know someone who does.

The Weather !

We have been hit by the bad weather this year. It always seemed to take a turn for the worse on a Saturday!

It certainly affected the numbers turning up each week, when people have come for a look round the club with a view to joining there's often only been a handful of members shooting. I don't think they believed me when I told them we have around 90 members!

The weather does appear to have picked up now and there are more people attending. I guess now we will start hearing complaints about the sun getting in your eyes!

Another 80th Birthday

Back in January, Ray we celebrated Ray's birthday in the usual way. We have a growing band of octogenarians!

Apologies

I am sorry that the website hasn't been updated for a while. I have been struggling to find the time to fit everything in recently

Hopefully, normal service will be resumed shortly
